I didn't sleep a single minute last night. I just don't know if anxiety, boredom, stress or worry is causing my insomnia. I suppose tonight I'll be so tired I will finally sleeping some.
Last night I decided the family needed a bit of normalcy so I ordered take out from the local japanese habachi restaurant. I had not orders take out during the quarantine so far. Restaurants are remaining open but for take out or delivery only. I still worry about the people preparing, packaging and delivering meals leaving their germs on our food. But, I did some research on Covid-19 and realized the risk was very low. The CDC is recommending we have delivery drivers leave our packages at the door as to not have contact with them. Then for take out or delivery they recommend taking the food out of the bag, toss the bag, Lysol wipes all containers and put food into our own plates and dishes. To go one step further they say to microwave the food for 30 seconds to kill any bacteria or virus that may remain. So that gave me more confidence. I still doubt I would order fast food because many of their workers just still go to work since most don't have insurance and must get paid. I chose a locally owned restaurant that scores high on health department tests. So off to Brady's I went with Zelda as my copilot.
It is surreal going out. We are under a mandate to stay home except necessary. Traffic is light because you're only permitted to be away from home for work, medical care, pharmacy or food. Then the restaurants usually have cars picking up food orders. Brady's was great, you park, they come to get the payment and return with your food. It was a nice family meal like back when life was normal.
Normal. When life was normal. This is our new normal. With no relief in sight. Dr's and researchers say Kentucky covid-19 cases should apex (the highest part of numbers of cases on the "curve") may be about mid April to mid May. But then once we are over the hump and cases decrease we still need to be able to test everyone to be sure that if we open back up, we prevent another spike in cases. And that could be into summer or fall. Then there is the question of if this because a seasonal type illness such as influenza. A vaccine is being developed but will likely take 12 to 18 months from now since it would need to go through trials and FDA approval.
Here is an example of the curve. We are self isolating and social distancing to decrease spread of the virus to keep cases at a level our hospitals can handle. If we aren't practicing these well enough then our curve could be the larger curve and our healthcare would be overwhelming and causing so many more lives. We must flatten the curve.
Our Governor is also getting national attention because of the excellent job he is doing. Memes are popping up everywhere. Even his sign language interpreter, Virginia Moore is getting national attention. She is awesome. Also, Kenneth who does the tech for the governor. 🤣 They come on every evening at 5pm with an update, give information for things such as for the workers who have lost their jobs due to shut downs. Only essential life-sustaining businesses are allowed to be open at this time.

Our Governor Andy Beshear has put these practices into effect as soon as he could. And so far Kentucky is fairing much better than our surrounding states. As a result he has now mandated an order to not travel outside of Kentucky, except did essential work travel or medical care. Here is a good nap to get an idea about how we are stacking up against our surrounding neighbors. Although this map is a couple days old, we have many more cases and deaths.

Yesterday was a hard one. In 24 hours we had 7 Kentuckians die from Covid-19. When we have a death in KY we light up our homes with green lights. The Governor lights the capital building and the governor's mansion green. It's a color of compassion and calm.
I will come back and posts today's stats as of 5pm. For now:
President Trump also does a daily brief about 5pm from the White House. I'll be honest, I have a hard time watching those. He uses them as a way to brag about himself. I'm angry because he knew about this virus when it was ravaging Wuhan, China where it started. That was in January. Until this week he downplayed the virus as a democrat hoax, refusing to prepare enough supplies for our healthcare workers while saying the flu is worse. Finally the Dr's have reached him and yesterday he gave a sombering brief with the new projections. They are saying if we do this staying at home, using social distancing of 6 feet apart absolutely perfectly, we could see 100,000 deaths. Yes 100k. That's the positive. It could be as many as 200k+. We are at war. A war all of the US is fighting. It is scary.
Yesterday I watched and cried as videos surfaces of the USNS Mercy and Comfort arrived in harbors I'd New York City and Los Angeles. These massive ships are floating hospitals with 1000 beds. They are helping ease the burden in these hard hit cities. These ships haven't aides the mainland since WWII!! As each made their way to dock, people lined the waterways (at a healthy 6 feet social distance) and out of their windows and on balconies to cheer for the ships arrival. It was a sight to show just how serious this was is.
I watched as National Guardsmen, Army Corp of Engineers and charities built temporary hospitals in soccer fields, warehouses, convention centers and even Central Park NYC. It is amazing how these hero's are quicky giving a relief valve for the hospitals. I imagine it is only a matter of time before we see these pop up in Kentucky. The Governor has said the state is preparing for take over motels, hotels, convention centers and places like dormitories to become temporary hospitals. His Swift action to place shelter at home orders has given us some precious time. Our hospitals and medical centers are working to get enough personal protective equipment (ppe), ventilators and be ready for what may (will) come.
I'm currently watching the Today Show in NBC. It amazes me that nearly every talk show, newscast, etc. have their anchors and guest all working from home. One thing I always notice is that many of these people use their home offices and many have bookshelves behind them. I love trying to see what books they have on their shelves. Late shows and some live studio shows are being done with no audience, thhedefie no laughing. It is strange.
This is all strange. I feel like we are living in a science fiction movie. But it's real. Luckily, before non-essential businesses were forced to close we were able to purchase a golf cart. We have named her "My Corona" as a okay on the song "My Sharona" and the Coronavirus. It helps break up our monotonous day and able to get out in the fresh air for a bit
In positive news, our pool is being opened today. We hope by the weekend when the weather warms some and the heater has warmed the water enough for us to use it.
The questions on my mind all night was these, what will life be like after we gain control of this virus? Will it ever be the same? Will our country recover? Will we have learned about priorities and make necessary changes?
